Who We Are....
Minnich's Birds 'n More is located in
Hamburg,
Pennsylvania in the heart of Pennsylvania's Dutch country and just 5
minutes from Cabela's. Having
birds as pets all her life, when Lisa's pet Blue Front Amazon, Peanut,
made it known that she wanted a mate it was a natural step for Lisa and
Scott to purchase one for her and so it all began....one pair of breeders
became two, two became three, three became six, etc. As those of you
who already own birds know, parrots are some of the most intelligent
and fascinating creatures and once you have one you have to have
more.
In the past we had three aviaries housing amazons, african
greys, senegals, meyers, cockatoos, macaws, and eclectus parrots. We still
have the three aviaries, but have substantially cut back on our breeding stock.
All of our babies are raised in our nursery and are brought up around our three
children, four dogs, and three cats. I do not bring any babies in from
outside breeders, all babies are hatched here from our pairs. The babies
are given lots of TLC and
are abundance weaned to a high quality seed mix, pellets, sprouts, and fresh & dried fruits and
veggies. The babies and all my birds have been loving it since Mom
is back home and she is also home schooling Erika and Jesse, as we are able to
give them extra attention. They love to help the girls with their school
work by shredding their papers... All the babies are DNA sexed prior to going to their new homes
and we completely disease test our entire nursery every 2-3 months. We run a closed
aviary and visitors are restricted from the breeding aviaries to eliminate the
spread of disease and also not to stress the breeders. However, if
you purchase a baby from us you will be invited, and encouraged to come and
visit and bond with your baby as it grows.
Over the years we have gone from a small store front
in our home in Topton, to a much larger property in Hamburg, to a separate shop
in Shoemakersville and are now back in our home in Hamburg. All of these
moves have been positive for me from in the beginning growing and expanding my
business and love of breeding, to bringing it back down to a more personal level
now. At this point my children and husband need to come first and foremost in my
life for many reasons and I am enjoying being able to give them my time that I
have not been able to for a long time. My personal passion was and always
will be the birds and this will not change. I believe my decision will
also be the best for them in the long run as they are getting more of "Momma
Lisa's" time too!
Many things have changed during the past year, but the one thing that hasn't is my commitment to
standing behind those babies that I had raised over the past years and providing quality foods, toys, and accessories for my clients.
I have made the decision to discontinue breeding for the next several years and
operate on a appointment only basis for grooming and limited supplies so that I
may concentrate on my family. Please feel
free to give me a call or drop me an e-mail with any questions. -
